Anti-Vehicle Barrier in Mauerpark
Concrete plate with cut-off anti-vehicle barrier in Mauerpark on Eberswalde
In early 2018, the concrete slab measuring just under 18 square meters with remnants of the embedded vehicle barrier was discovered during construction work in Mauerpark between Bernauer Strasse and Gleimstrasse. The barriers were part of the border fortifications and served to prevent people from escaping to the West in cars or trucks. They were cut off when the vehicle barriers were dismantled in 1984, and the concrete slab was buried over after the Wall fell. During excavation, in addition to the backfilled entrance of a failed escape tunnel, foundations of the border wall and cables of the border communication system and the line of lights were also found. The remnants of the border fortifications were placed on display in the archaeological window at the entrance to Mauerpark in 2020.
