Brick Wall in Schönholz
Remains of the brick wall at S-Bahnhof Schönholz in Pankow
The 80-meter-long brick wall in the shape of a triangle was part of the early Berlin Wall border fortifications. Elements of the surrounding buildings here on Schützenstraße were integrated into the border grounds and the state border ran along the outer wall of the surrounding residential buildings. While the original wall was replaced in many places by the concrete wall, the Schönholzer brick wall was preserved, along with the attached metal holders for barbed wire and signal wire. It was not discovered until 1999 and in 2018 its preservation was made public. At the time of construction, this section of the wall belonged to the district of Pankow, however, due to an exchange of territory in 1988, the wall remnants are now located in the district of Reinickendorf. They are now landmarked.
