Kirschblütenallee in Teltow
Kirschblütenallee as border strip remembrance site in Teltow
Today's TV-Asahi cherry blossom lane runs along the former border strip between Teltow and Lichterfelde, which divided the districts of Teltow-Seehof and Berlin-Lichterfelde until 1989. In 1990, after the Wall fell, the Japanese television station TV-Asahi asked the Japanese people to participate in a fundraising campaign, whereupon 1,100 cherry trees were planted along 1.5 kilometers of the former border strip in 1995 and 1996. The cherry blossom lane is now a part of the Wall Trail and a memorial to German division.
