Divided Findenkruger Weg
Divided vehicle lane of Finkenkruger Weg in Staaken
In 1945, the Allies agreed on an exchange of territory in western Berlin in which West-Staaken, which was part of the British sector, was ceded to the Soviet sector. In 1952, the area was separated and border fortifications were erected. According to the 1945 agreement, the border ran right down the middle of Finkenkruger Weg, which was later only paved on the side belonging to the West Berlin district of Spandau. The original cobblestones remained on the other side, along with the turnabout at the north end which is no longer used.
