Hollow block wall at Stralauer Platz
The foundation wall in the lower section belonged to the premises of the filter and carburettor factory on Stralauer Platz. To prevent people from escaping to the West, the foundation wall of the factory was raised using hollow blocks. In addition, glass panes were set in concrete at the top, parts of which can still be seen today. On 14 February 1972, Manfred Weylandt, an employee of the filter and carburettor factory, attempted to escape over the outer walls of the factory. He managed to jump into the River Spree, but was spotted by border guards and shot. He drowned in the icy cold Spree.
