Barring and bricking up
Barring and bricking up of the arches under the suburban railway line
The substructure of the railway line was part of the border fortifications and was extensively secured on both sides. The north side of the railway line faced East Berlin. The railings and brickwork still secure the arches of the railway line today. In 2003, there were also four red and white border markings painted on the bricks. These painted paw prints have since disappeared. The south side of the railway line was located directly in the border strip and served as a so-called hinterland wall. In some places, a white coat of paint is still visible on the old brick walls. The white paint was applied at the time to make it easier to see people in the dark.
