Inner Wall Fence on Klemkestrasse
Expanded metal fence at the allotment gardens near Klemkestraße
The border strip at the allotment garden colony near Klemkestraße was secured to East Berlin by this expanded metal fence. As a perimeter security measure, these fences stood on the East Berlin side immediately in front of the hinterland wall, thus ensuring a uniform enclosure of the allotment gardens opposite the border strip. Today, the expanded metal fence separates the Wall Trail from the allotment gardens behind it. Smaller fragments of the expanded metal have been built into some of the allotment garden gates.
