Border Strip in Erlengrund and Fichtewiese

Border strip of the West Berlin exklaves Erlengrund and Fichtewiese

The West Berlin exclaves Erlengrund and Fichtewiese were on the West Berlin side but from 1961 to 1988 they could only be reached by crossing the border strip. The weekend settlements on Erlengrund were located right on the Havel River. After the border crossing was removed in 1988, the owners of the summerhouses were able to enter the area unrestricted. Today, the former exclaves lie on the Berlin Wall Trail. The paved path and the remains of the tower's foundations still exist.
